We say: “Stick itâ€
Retailers are pushing to relax the rules
requiring them to disclose the cost of the goods on your supermarket’s shelves.
They want to get rid of price stickers and instead require shoppers to scan
their goods at do-it-yourself electronic price checks placed every few aisles
throughout the store.
At the same time food prices are
skyrocketing, they want to make it harder for us to figure out just how much
we’ll pay at the checkout counter. When it comes to the price, we say: “Stick
it.”
Even worse, the same bill contains
provisions that would lower the fines and gut enforcement mechanisms when
grocers are caught charging the wrong price or failing to post prices. This is
an anti-consumer measure, and it shouldn’t be passed.
