Campaign to Update the Bottle Bill collected over 27,000 signatures!
Amazing work everyone! The coalition to update the Bottle Bill collected over 27,000 signatures, surpassing our goal by more than 4,000! This was a tremendous team effort, congratulations to everyone who hit the streets and gathered signatures.
While we believe that we have a sufficient amount of signatures to qualify the initiative, we still have a few crucial steps to take. We now need to get the signatures delivered to and certified by clerks from 351 cities and towns, and then retrieve the petitions and deliver them to the Secretary of State by July 2nd to be validated. It’s a process — special thanks to all those participating in the drop-off and pick-up of these petitions across the state.
We will keep you updated on our progress with the initiative and any last minute movement in the Legislature. In the meantime, we encourage you to voice your support in your community and online by commenting on recent bottle bill media, such as the Boston Globe’s editorial in Monday’s paper. Now is also a great time to submit LTEs to the Globe regarding their recent front page article. And don’t forget to post and/or tweet these pieces on your own/your organizations’ website and Twitter account.
