Keep the Focus on Lowering Health Care Costs

For Immediate Release

Statement by Deirdre Cummings, Legislative Director of MASSPIRG on Blue Cross Blue Shield’s decision to give back $4.26 million to their customers after AG investigation into the excessive compensation awarded to former CEO Cleve Killingsworth.
“The decision today by Blue Cross Blue Shield to rebate Blue Cross Blue Shield customers over $4 million is an important gesture, but more importantly, it serves to put all insurers, and others involved in health care, that excessive, wasteful or unnecessary spending will not be tolerated by health care consumers.

Health care costs have been rising faster than every other household expense; everyone must focus on lowering the cost.”
