New report: Hazardous Meat & Poultry Recalls Nearly Double

From E. coli-infected romaine lettuce to Salmonella-tainted beef, contaminated foods lead to illnesses that sicken as many as 1 in 6 Americans annually. In 2018, this epidemic helped spur major recalls, which caused stores and restaurants to toss millions of pounds of meat and produce.  MASSPIRG Education Fund’s new report How Safe is Our Food?, released today, reveals how fundamental flaws in our current food safety system have led to a jump in these recalls since 2013.

Fiat Chrysler Settlement Fails to Protect Consumers

MA Residents to Get New Consumer Protections

Massachusetts residents will get new consumer protections against identity theft under a new law, An Act Relative to Consumer Protection from Security Breaches, HB 4806,  just signed by Governor Baker.

Legislature ends session with the passage of three key consumer protection bills

As the legislature wrapped up their 2017-18 session, they passed three important consumer protection bills. All the bills now are awaiting a final signature of Governor Baker who has 10 days to sign them or they fail to become law. Bills include: Consumer Protection from Security Breaches, An Act to Protect Children, Families and Firefighters from Harmful Flame Retardants, and Providing Equitable Coverage in Disability Insurance.

Legislature sends Governor Security Breach Bill

BOSTON – Massachusetts residents poised to get new consumer protections against identity theft under a new bill, An Act Relative to Consumer Protection from Security Breaches, HB 4806,  just passed with bipartisan, unanimous votes in both the House and Senate on New Year’s Eve. The bill must be signed by Governor to become law.
