Voting rights supporters flock to the State House for The Election Modernization Coalition’s Election Day Registration Lobby Day (EDR)

BOSTON, MA – Voting rights activists from around the Commonwealth gathered at the State House to voice their support at the Election Modernization Coalition’s Election Day Registration lobby day on Wednesday June 5th.

 Our job is to stand up for the public interest, and we applaud state legislators who did that with us this past year.

Transparency in government is the cornerstone of a strong democracy. Government transparency checks corruption, promotes fiscal responsibility and efficiency, and allows for greater, more meaningful participation in our democratic system.

Our organizations have each worked to promote transparency in government for decades. As leaders of the Massachusetts Freedom of Information Alliance (MassFOIA), we collaborated to advocate for the legislation to update the public records law which included this Special Legislative Commission, and we offer this testimony together.

BOSTON, MA - With a bipartisan vote of 130-20, the Massachusetts House today passed Automatic Voter Registration (H. 4320, formerly H.2091 and S.373). Teachers, veterans,

environmentalists, immigrants, and union members were among those who came to the State House to show support for this crucial reform.

Automatic Voter Registration hearing

The Legislature's Joint Committee on Election Laws held a public hearing today to consider Automatic Voter Registration, sponsored by Sen. Cynthia Creem and Rep. Peter Kocut. MASSPIRG, along with other members of the Election Modernization Coalition---including League of Women Voters/Massachusetts, Common Cause/Massachusetts, MassVOTE, Mass Voter Table, Progressive MA and others, packed the hearing room to urge passage of the bill.
