Proprietary medical device repair harms hospitals, could threaten patients, during COVID-19 pandemic

BOSTON -- The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is putting incredible stress on the U.S. medical system, including the equipment that is essential to diagnose and treat patients, such as ventilators. As that equipment is pressed into round-the-clock use, biomedical repair technicians face increasing pressure to maintain and repair all that equipment.

Health groups Call on US Senate to protect emergency workers in next stimulus

Boston—A coalition of groups including MASSPIRG,  Health Care for All, Massachusetts Public Health Association, Jewish Alliance for Law and Social Action, and several other groups sent letters to Senator Warren and Senator Markey today thanking them for supporting the Medical Supply Transparency and Delivery Act, which would establish central, transparent coordination of the medical supply chain during the COVID-19 crisis. The groups are also asking Senator Warren and Markey to urge the Senate leadership to include the legislation in the next coronavirus stimulus package. The letter comes after health officials expressed serious concern over continued shortages of personal protective equipment (PPE) amid rising cases and a lack of federal support.

Statement: Groups applaud environmental agency decision to revisit Solid Waste Master Plan

BOSTON -- In a move celebrated by several major environmental, grassroots and public interest organizations, the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) announced Thursday that they would re-open the public hearing process on the draft 2020-2030 Solid Waste Master Plan, the Commonwealth’s blueprint for dealing with waste. After the initial hearings ended in December without sufficient public outreach, the groups started pushing for the public hearings to be reopened; through direct advocacy, letters, emails and grassroots organizing.

State-funded study confirms “neonics” pesticides harmful to pollinators

BOSTON --  A coalition of beekeepers, public health, farming and agriculture and environmental organizations praised the findings of a recent report issued by the Massachusetts Department of Agriculture (MDAR). With this week being National Pollinator Week, the 24 groups also aptly called on the department to take immediate action to protect bees.
